Preparing the Spatula-Grade Silicone
Mixing the silicone
Mix Part A and Part B in the recommended ratio (100:2 or 100:3 by weight).
Use a clean container and stir slowly to avoid air bubbles.
Adding the thixotropic powder
Recommended dosage: 2–5% by weight of the silicone.
• For 3.6 kg silicone → 70–180 g powder
• For 6.0 kg silicone → 120–300 g powder
Add gradually until you reach the desired consistency (spatula-grade, lump-free).
Applying to the model
First layer: fluid silicone (with little or no powder) to capture fine details.
Subsequent layers: thickened silicone, until reaching a final thickness of 3–5 mm.
Working time: 30–40 min | Cure time: 8–10 h at 25 °C.
Practical Examples of Silicone Consumption
(Based on an average thickness of 3–5 mm)
Statue h ≈ 50 cm (surface ≈ 0.35 m²)
• 3 mm → ~1.3 kg silicone
• 5 mm → ~2.2 kg silicone
Statue h ≈ 100 cm (surface ≈ 1.04 m²)
• 3 mm → ~4.0 kg silicone
• 5 mm → ~6.6–6.9 kg silicone
Statue h ≈ 150 cm (surface ≈ 2.1 m²)
• 3 mm → ~8.0 kg silicone
• 5 mm → ~13.5 kg silicone
In all cases, add 2–5% thixotropic powder (added gradually until the ideal consistency is achieved).
Always allow an additional +10–15% for waste, joins and overlaps.
Optional: Rigid Support Shell
To provide stability and durability to the silicone mould, we recommend creating an external support shell:

Plaster + bandage → economical and quick, but heavier and more fragile

Resin + fibreglass (recommended) → lightweight, strong and long-lasting shell
For a statue measuring approx. 95 × 30 cm (~1.04 m²):
Apply in 2–3 layers to obtain a solid yet lightweight support shell.
